Abbas sends condolences in name of Palestinian people to Rabbi Yosef’s family

(The Jerusalem Post) The gesture was notable.  Lahav Harkov reported for Jpost.com that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas expressed condolences in the name of the Palestinian people to the family of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef on Monday.  President Abbas made the comments while hosting a delegation of Israeli MKs in Ramallah.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, 93, the influential spiritual leader of Israel’s Sephardic Jewish community and the ultra-Orthodox Shas party underwent heart surgery at Jerusalem’s Hadassah hospital on September 23 and remained in the hospital where his condition slightly improved before turning critical late Sunday, according to aljazeera.com.
