(CNA/EWTN) Reflecting on the Gospel of the the widow of Nain, Pope Francis said that she can be seen as “an icon of the Church, because the Church is in a certain sense a widow.” The Holy Father continued,“The Bridegroom is gone and she walks in history, hoping to find him, to meet with him. And she will be his true bride. In the meantime she – the Church – is alone! The Lord is invisible. She has a certain dimension of widowhood.”
In his homily, the Pope also said that the dead son who Jesus raises from the dead is a sign to us that Christ raises us from the death of sin to new life and reunites us with our Mother, the Church, just as the son was reunited to his mother in the Gospel.
