EU bans funding to some Israeli institutions

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
(FoxNews; AP) Surely there will be more to come after a press release by the Associated Press today on the European Union’s decision to ban European funding of Israeli institutions operating in occupied territories.

The release, entitled, “Israeli prime minister phones his European counterparts a day after funding ban announced” reports that the EU ban will go into effect in 2014 and applies to “grants, prizes and financial instruments.”  What the release also makes clear is that this move marks “a new international show of displeasure with Israeli settlements built on lands captured in the 1967 Mideast war.” It’s an interesting move that some might have said was unexpected but could possibly help Palestinian Christians in the complicated world of Middle East politics.
