(News.va) The Franciscan Friars aren’t the only ones fed up with vandalism and desecration of Christian places in the Holy. More than 100 Christians formed a spontaneous march through the Old City, Jerusalem. Tired of being targeted by groups of extremist Jewish settlers, the Christians marched from the Holy Sepulchre to the cemeteries that were recently vandalized.
According to our friends at the Vatican,
“the small procession, following a wooden cross, sang and recited prayers along the way, spreading a statement in which they denounce acts of intimidation against monasteries, cemeteries, churches and mosques.”
Bishop Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem said, “It was a spontaneous demonstration to denounce the repeated attacks against holy places carried out by an irresponsible minority, that threatens the peaceful coexistence among peoples”.
The number of acts of intimidation against monasteries, churches and Christian cemeteries began in February 2012. Since then, militant Jewish extremist groups close to the settler movement have also led attacks against mosques frequented by Muslims.
