Persecution of Christians, even sisters, ever present in Iraq

(Dominican Sisters of Hope) Prioress Lorelle Eclcok wrote to the sisters and associates…

Please remember to make Monday, January 12 a special day of prayer for our family in Iraq and the U.S. delegation that is currently there. The Delegation, consisting of Marcelline Koch, Arlene Flaherty, and Dusty Farnan, left on January 5th and returns on the 15th. Pat Farrell created a schedule for U.S. Dominican congregations, and asked that Dominican Sisters of Hope pray on January 12 so that they know who is praying for them and for our Dominican Family in Iraq each day.

The delegates are hopeful that the trip will further the goal of continued assistance when they return to the US by:

  • Allowing them to directly experience the needs of our sisters and the people they serve, especially children and women.
  • Enabling them to define the scope of our advocacy for the coming months based on what they learn directly from our sisters about what they need.
  • Providing an opportunity for conversation with the NGOs who are serving there so that we can build a strategy for advocacy and political intervention in the US and internationally.
  • Enabling them to speak with authority and credibility to USG officials, potential financial supporters, and the people of the US.

In Hope,
Prioress Lorelle Elcock
