(L’Osservatore Romano) Looking back at an article by L’Osservatore Romano on June 28th, I couldn’t help but think of those of us in the United States who are involved in helping the Custody of the Holy Land to safeguard the Christian presence there. Why? Because of what Pope Francis said during his homily at daily Mass on June 27th about being Christians of action and truth and not Christians of words.
This topic, as the article points out, is dear to him. It was also dear to Jesus who often preached against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes. We do well to put our money where our mouths are, as the saying goes. To use our socio-economic status not just as a symbol but as an influential force for good. One does not have to look at too many pictures or hear too many stories to know Christians are in a bad way in the Holy Land and in Syria. The FFHL thanks Pope Francis for his inspired words.
