Ein Karem, in Hebrew, עַיִן כרֶם‎, literally meaning “Spring of the Vineyard”, known by some as the “most beautiful neighborhood in Jerusalem”, is an ancient village located in the southwest part of Jerusalem. It is surrounded by green hills and forests. Many travel to Ein Karem to experience its picturesque beauty and visit the various Christian and historical sites there.
According to Christian tradition, St. John the Baptist was born in this village to Elizabeth and Zechariah. It is also the site where the Virgin Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, and was greeted with the words: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb,” and Mary proclaimed her Magnificat to the Lord.
Millions of pilgrims from around the world visit Ein Karem every year.
