In the Holy Land, Christians face unique economic challenges. To address these issues and offer a brighter future, the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land (FFHL) is dedicated to providing support. While traditional scholarships remain a key part of FFHL’s mission, their Vocational and Technical Education Program showcases their commitment to empowering deserving students with practical skills and promising opportunities.

This initiative goes beyond traditional university education. It focuses on equipping students with the skills needed for careers such as electricians, carpenters, auto mechanics, as well as culinary arts and cosmetology. FFHL scholarships cover tuition and materials for two years, opening doors for many aspiring young people who may not have had such opportunities otherwise.

The program extends beyond education alone. Students attend respected institutions like the Notre Dame School of Cooking and the Lutheran World Federation Vocational Training Center in Jerusalem. Here, they not only learn valuable skills but also build connections within their Christian community.

What makes this program exceptional is its inclusivity. Many students who cannot afford vocational training receive support from FFHL. Without this assistance, their dreams of meaningful employment may remain out of reach. Yet, with FFHL’s backing, almost 90% of graduates find employment in their chosen fields, benefiting not only themselves but also their communities.

Since its launch in 2005, the Vocational and Technical Education Program has positively impacted the lives of over 300 students, including 13 in 2023.

Elie Mansour, a grateful beneficiary of the program, expresses his appreciation in a heartfelt letter to FFHL. As a dental technician, Elie’s career was made possible by the support he received. His words serve as a poignant reminder of the profound impact that this program has on individuals and communities alike.

Dear FFHL,

I am writing this letter to thank you for the scholarship award as it has helped me a lot, and I truly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your generosity. It is a privilege to be chosen for this scholarship that has helped me pay for the tuition for my major as a dental technician. Without your help, I would not have been able to pursue a career as a dental technician.

Thank you once again for your support.

Sincerely,

Elie Mansour

Elie’s story is just one among many, illustrating the life-changing impact of FFHL’s Vocational and Technical Education program. By investing in the futures of young Christians in the Holy Land, FFHL not only provides practical skills but also instills hope and resilience in a community facing unique challenges. As we celebrate the successes of students like Elie, let us continue to support initiatives that pave the way for a brighter future for all.

Change a life today!
