New Year’s Appeal
LET US PRAY
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.”
-Jeremiah 29:11-12
As another year begins, our hearts turn toward the Holy Land, the place where our Christian faith began. We ask the Lord to bless His people there and to bring healing and lasting peace to that sacred region.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” (John 14:27) … words that today echo ever so faintly across the hills of Bethlehem, in Jerusalem and through the Gaza strip as we hold onto a hope that the recent conflict has come to an end. Our Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land continue to hold fast to that peace, for as the conflict may have ceased, the hardships continue. Their courage and faith remind us what it means to truly depend on God.
The same words of Jesus challenge each of us to trust in the peace only Christ can give … in the world, in the Holy Land and in our own country, in our families and in our own lives.
Because of your prayers and generosity, the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land (FFHL) has carried out its mission for more than thirty years. Your support keeps Christian families in the land of Christ’s birth. You help children go to school, young adults find work, boys receive guidance and care and families keep a roof over their heads.
As we begin this new year, I ask you to make a special gift to continue this mission. Every contribution – large or small – helps bring comfort and strength to those who might otherwise feel forgotten.
Please send us your prayer intentions for the new year so they can be remembered at Mass in the Holy Land.
